The Diabetes and Endocrine Research Center (DERC) at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) was established in June 2000 with its administrative and biomedical cores housed at he Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes (BDC). Memberships total 33 faculty from UCHSC including the BDC, School of Medicine, Departments of Endocrinology, Immunology, Preventative Medicine and Biometrics, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, Human Medical Genetics, Pharmacy, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and Rheumatology. Other members come from National Jewish Medical Research Center and Denver General Hospital. This research base is focused upon six broard research areas:

  • Pathogenesis of Type 1 Diabetes and Experimental Therapeutics
  • Islet Transplanation Immunobiology
  • Immunogenetics of type 1 diabetes in man
  • Diabetes Related Translational Research and Epidemiology Research
  • Pathogenesis and complications of Type 2 Diabetes

Funding Opportunities

The DERC P&F Program is a key component of the DERC and aims to draw new investigators in to the field, to faster innovative diabetes-related research in UCHSC and its affiliated institutions and to increase awarness within the academic and lay community to the importance of research into the prevention, treatment and cure of diabetes
